Reading Revolutions: The Public Library in America Wed June 10th, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Saugerties Public Library, 91 Washington Avenue Sarah McFadden from the New York State Library presents ... During the American Revolution, reading and writing were critical to the work of building a nation. In the years that followed, public libraries spread across the young republic in response to monumental shifts in American education, culture, and daily life. This talk will highlight American public library firsts from the early days of the institution to its growing role as the backbone of American cultural and educational life. The Carnegie Corporation of New York has gifted the Saugerties Library with $10,000 in honor of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
